Abstract
Described herein are peptides and pharmaceutical compositions, e.g., for the treatment of inflammation. Further described herein are methods of treating patients for inflammation and/or infection with particularly efficacious treatments depending on the subject's level of fVEGF.

A peptide comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 (DRVQRQTTTVVA).
A method of treating inflammation in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering an anti-inflammatory or anti-infective treatment to a subject with an increased level of fragmented VEGF (fVEGF).
