Abstract
In one aspect, π-conjugated asymmetric molecular dyes are described herein comprising a donor (D)-acceptor (A) architecture across a thiazolothiazole bridge. In another aspect, methods of making thiazolothiazole-based compounds are described herein which obviate the need for chromatographic isolation of product.
Claims46
An asymmetric thiazolothiazole-based compound of Formula I:
- wherein D is an electron donor, Ar1 is selected from the group consisting of arylene and heteroarylene, and Mc is a charged moiety.
A method of making a thiazolothiazole-based compound comprising:
- reacting dithiooxamide with a first aryl aldehyde and a second aryl aldehyde in a protic polar organic solvent to provide the thiazolothiazole-based compound;
- and
- isolating the thiazolothiazole-based compound without chromatographic separation.
A biological composition comprising:
- cells or cellular components;
- and
- a marker associated with membranes of the cells or cellular components, the marker comprising a thiazolothiazole-based compound of Formula I:
- wherein D is an electron donor, Ar1 is selected from the group consisting of arylene and heteroarylene, and Mc is a charged moiety.
