Abstract
Embodiments can relate to a method of preparing roadway material. The method can involve combining an aggregate and a cement-based binder to form an untreated roadway mix. The method can involve adding a crack mitigating agent to the untreated roadway mix to generate a treated roadway mix. The crack mitigating agent can include maltenes and the addition of it to the untreated roadway mix can influence dispersion of the cement, formation of calcium hydroxide (CH) and/or calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), and/or flexibility of the treated roadway mix.
Claims19
A method of preparing a roadway material, the method comprising:
- combining an aggregate and a binder to form an untreated roadway mix, the binder including cement;
- adding a crack mitigating agent to the untreated roadway mix to form a treated roadway mix, the crack mitigating agent includes maltenes, the amount of maltenes within the crack mitigating agent being 0.01%-5% by weight of the untreated roadway mix.
The method of claim 9, wherein:
- the emulsion includes water, asphalt, and maltenes.
A method of conditioning an untreated roadway mix, the method comprising:
- adding a crack mitigating agent to an untreated roadway mix, the crack mitigating agent includes maltenes, the mount of maltenes within the crack mitigating agent being 0.01%-5% by weight of the untreated roadway mix;
- wherein the untreated roadway mix includes a binder or a binder is added to the untreated roadway mix prior to adding the crack mitigating agent, the binder including cement.
A method of processing roadway material, the method comprising:
- reclaiming one or more layers of a roadway material comprising an asphalt layer and a base course layer to form an untreated roadway mix;
- adding a binder comprising cement to the untreated roadway mix;
- adding maltenes to the untreated roadway mix to generate a treated roadway mix by influencing:
- dispersion of the cement in the treated roadway mix;
- formation of calcium hydroxide (CH) and/or calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) in the treated roadway mix;
- and/or
- flexibility of the treated roadway mix.
