Abstract
Wall climbing elevator systems include a load compartment and a carriage assembly. The carriage assembly includes a set of wheels configured to frictionally engage with a wall surface of a building and at least one suction system configured to aerodynamically adhere the carriage assembly and the load compartment to the wall surface. Each suction system of the at least one suction system includes a skirt assembly defining a suction chamber between the carriage assembly and the wall surface and a fan assembly for generating a low pressure within the suction chamber to generate an aerodynamic adhesion to secure the carriage assembly and the load compartment to the wall surface.
Claims22
A wall climbing elevator system comprising:
- a load compartment;
- and
- a carriage assembly, wherein the carriage assembly comprises:
- a set of wheels configured to frictionally engage with a wall surface of a building;
- and
- at least one suction system configured to aerodynamically adhere the carriage assembly and the load compartment to the wall surface, wherein each suction system of the at least one suction system comprises:
- a skirt assembly defining a suction chamber between the carriage assembly and the wall surface, wherein the skirt assembly comprises a rigid frame, a biasing element and a seal element comprising an encapsulated O-ring with a coating applied to an exterior of the O-ring;
- and
- a fan assembly for generating a low pressure within the suction chamber to generate an aerodynamic adhesion to secure the carriage assembly and the load compartment to the wall surface.
