An elevator clamp for use with a guide rail can include a framework having a framework cavity and a channel. The channel can be defined by a first wall, a second wall, and a base, and can receive the guide rail. A cam can be disposed in a recess in the first wall and can include an engagement portion and a clearance portion. A spring can bias the cam toward a first position in which the engagement portion extends into the channel to engage the guide rail. A handle can rotate the cam to a second position in which the engagement portion is retracted. A spring plunger can be disposed in the base and can provide a mechanical stop against cam rotation. Insertion of the guide rail can move the spring plunger to a compressed position, removing the mechanical stop and allowing the cam to engage the guide rail.
