Abstract
Systems and methods for determining a position of an elevator car use an image sensor including a plurality of pixels having a pixel height and being arranged in a height direction, and a tape having a barcode with a bar extending lengthwise and having a lengthwise edge, the bar having a bar height in the height direction, the bar height being larger than the pixel height, wherein the image sensor is arranged movably along the tape and is configured for scanning the barcode, and wherein the method identifies a degree of coverage for an edge pixel and determines a relative position from the image sensor to the edge using the degree of coverage of the edge pixel.

A method for determining a position of an elevator car of an elevator system using an image sensor, the image sensor comprising a plurality of vertically arranged pixels arranged along a height direction of the sensor, each pixel of the plurality of pixels having a defined pixel height, the method comprising:
- scanning, using the image sensor, a barcode that includes at least one bar extending horizontally across a length of the barcode, perpendicular to the barcode's height direction, the at least one bar including:
- a bar height extending in the barcode's height direction, the bar height being greater than the pixel height;
- and
- a lengthwise edge extending along the length of the barcode;
- identifying a degree of coverage of an edge pixel of the plurality of pixels, the lengthwise edge of the bar being imaged onto the edge pixel;
- and
- determining a relative position between the image sensor and the lengthwise edge of the bar based on the degree of coverage of the edge pixel.
A position measuring system for determining a position of an elevator car of an elevator system, the position measuring system comprising:
- an image sensor comprising a plurality of vertically arranged pixels arranged along a height direction of the sensor, each pixel of the plurality of pixels having a defined pixel height;
- and
- a tape comprising a barcode that includes at least one bar extending horizontally across a length of the barcode, perpendicular to the barcode's height direction, the at least one bar including:
- a bar height extending in the barcode's height direction, the bar height being greater than the pixel height;
- and
- a lengthwise edge extending along the length of the barcode;
- wherein the image sensor is positioned on the elevator car in a direction facing the tape such that as the elevator car moves, the image sensor moves along the tape;
- wherein the image sensor is configured to:
- scan the barcode to identify a degree of coverage of an edge pixel of the plurality of pixels, the lengthwise edge of the bar being imaged onto the edge pixel;
- and
- determine a relative position between the image sensor and the lengthwise edge of the bar based on the degree of coverage of the edge pixel.
An elevator system, comprising:
- a position measuring system comprising:
- an image sensor comprising a plurality of vertically arranged pixels arranged along a height direction of the sensor, each pixel of the plurality of pixels having a defined pixel height;
- and
- a tape comprising a barcode that includes at least one bar extending horizontally across a length of the barcode, perpendicular to the barcode's height direction, the at least one bar including:
- a bar height extending in the barcode's height direction, the bar height being greater than the pixel height;
- and
- a lengthwise edge extending along the length of the barcode;
- wherein the image sensor is positioned on the elevator car in a direction facing the tape such that as the elevator car moves, the image sensor moves along the tape;
- wherein the image sensor is configured to:
- scan the barcode to identify a degree of coverage of an edge pixel of the plurality of pixels, the lengthwise edge of the bar being imaged onto the edge pixel;
- and
- determine a relative position between the image sensor and the lengthwise edge of the bar based on the degree of coverage of the edge pixel.
