Abstract
The present invention relates to a yarn clamp, which may also be called a yarn brake and/or a yarn tensioner, formed of a ball in an inclined race. The lower end of the race comprises an aperture that is less than the diameter of the ball such that it acts as a stop. The mass of the ball and the degree of the incline are such that a jet of air, such as is used to propel a yarn, is sufficient to move the ball from its resting place at the stop, up the inclined race so that the yarn may be transported past the ball. When the jet of air stops, the ball returns to its resting place at the stop and clamps an end of the yarn at the aperture.

A yarn clamp, comprising:
- an obverse side;
- a reverse side distal from and opposite the obverse side;
- a throughpassage between the obverse side and the reverse side;
- an inclined race between the obverse side and the reverse side;
- and
- wherein a ball is configured to transition upwardly along the inclined race from a force imparted by a moving fluid when the moving fluid is directed towards the obverse side of the yarn clamp.
-116. (canceled)
A system for clamping a yarn, comprising:
- an obverse side;
- a reverse side distal from and opposite the obverse side;
- a throughpassage between the obverse side and the reverse side;
- a race between the obverse side and the reverse side inclining from the obverse side to the reverse side;
- and
- wherein:
- the throughpassage and the inclined race are conjoined at a junction proximal the obverse side;
- and
- a movable ball configured to rest adjacent the junction.
