Abstract
A reel system includes: an axle extending from a first end to a second end; a first wheel rotatably mounted to the first end of the axle; a second wheel rotatably mounted to the second end of the axle; and one or more spools positioned between the first and second wheels and rotatable with respect to the axle, wherein each of the first wheel and the second wheel includes: a hub; and a bronze bushing affixed to the hub, wherein the bushing includes an inner surface rotatably coupled to the axle and one or more lubrication grooves extending radially outward from the inner surface, the one or more lubrication grooves configured to retain grease usable to lubricate an interface between the axle and the inner surface of the bushing.
Claims20
A modular reel system comprising:
- an axle extending from a first end to a second end;
- a first wheel rotatably mounted to the first end of the axle;
- a second wheel rotatably mounted to the second end of the axle;
- and
- one or more spools positioned between the first and second wheels and rotatable with respect to the axle,
- wherein each of the first wheel and the second wheel comprises:
- a hub;
- and
- a bronze bushing affixed to the hub,
- wherein the bronze bushing comprises an inner surface rotatably coupled to the axle and at least two lubrication grooves extending radially outward from the inner surface, the at least two lubrication grooves configured to retain lubricant usable to lubricate an interface between the axle and the inner surface of the bronze bushing,
- wherein the at least two lubrication grooves comprises two intersecting grooves that are:
- each oriented at an angle of at least 15 degrees from a plane that is perpendicular to a central axis of the bronze bushing,
- oriented at an angle to one another that is between 30 and 60 degrees,
- each recessed radially beyond the inner surface by at least 0.04 inches, and
- each present within at least a majority of a length of the inner surface,
- wherein the axle is hollow, such that a shaft can pass through the axle to support the modular reel system above a floor during winding of cable onto the one or more spools, and
- wherein each of the first wheel and the second wheel are removable from the axle to at least one of:
- replace the first wheel and the second wheel with wheels having different outer diameters, or replace the axle with a second axle having a different length.
A reel system comprising:
- an axle extending from a first end to a second end;
- a first wheel rotatably mounted to the first end of the axle;
- a second wheel rotatably mounted to the second end of the axle;
- and
- one or more spools positioned between the first and second wheels and rotatable with respect to the axle,
- wherein each of the first wheel and the second wheel comprises:
- a hub;
- and
- a bushing affixed to the hub,
- wherein the bushing comprises an inner surface rotatably coupled to the axle and one or more lubrication grooves extending radially outward from the inner surface, the one or more lubrication grooves configured to retain lubricant usable to lubricate an interface between the axle and the inner surface of the bushing.
A modular wire-pulling reel system comprising:
- a reel having two end flanges and a central axle to hold various spool configurations;
- and
- a bushing made of bronze affixed within each of the flanges, the bushing having an internal grease lubrication groove formed on its inner bore,
- wherein the bushing provides a low-friction, free-spinning interface between the flange and the central axle on which the flange is mounted, enabling smooth rotation of the central axle under heavy load, and
- wherein the reel system is configurable for use either with a single standalone spool or with multi component spools mounted in parallel on the central axle for simultaneous deployment of multiple wires.
