Abstract
This disclosure concerns a sealant film comprising one or more polypropylene layers and a sealing layer comprising a polypropylene terpolymer and one or more polymers selected from polybutene-1 or a plastomer. The sealant film is a machine-direction-oriented (MDO) film comprising at least 95% by weight polypropylene. Also disclosed are multilayer packaging films comprising such sealant films and hermetically sealed packages (e.g., retort pouches) formed from the multilayer packaging film.
Claims19
A sealant film comprising:
- a sealing layer comprising a polypropylene terpolymer and one or more polymers selected from polybutene-1 or a plastomer;
- a core layer comprising polypropylene;
- and
- a lamination layer comprising polypropylene,
- wherein the sealant film is a machine-direction-oriented (MDO) film comprising at least 90% by weight polypropylene.
A process to produce a multilayer packaging film comprising the steps of:
- coextruding a sealant film comprising (i) a sealing layer comprising a polypropylene terpolymer and one or more polymers selected from polybutene-1 or a plastomer, (ii) a core layer comprising polypropylene;
- and (iii) a lamination layer comprising polypropylene,
- orienting the sealant film in the machine direction, and
- laminating the oriented sealant film to a first base layer comprising a polypropylene film,
- wherein the multilayer packaging film comprises at least 90% by weight polypropylene.
