Abstract
A propeller with a hub and a plurality of blades, at least one blade having a restraining device which restrains a portion of the blade in case of rupture of the blade. The propeller also has a release device which autonomously disables the restraining device so as to release the ruptured portion of the blade. Also a method and an aircraft with such a propeller.
Claims16
A propeller comprising:
- a hub with a longitudinal axis, called rotation axis;
- a plurality of blades, each blade extending from a root to a tip, each blade anchored by the root to the hub so as to extend radially from the hub, at least one blade of the plurality of blades comprising a restraining device anchored within the at least one blade, the restraining device configured to restrain a portion of the at least one blade in case of rupture of a proximal portion of the at least one blade;
- a release device configured to autonomously disable the restraining device.
A method for safely releasing a ruptured blade portion of a propeller, the method comprising:
- monitoring a propeller comprising a hub with a longitudinal axis, called rotation axis, and a plurality of blades, at least one blade of the plurality of blades comprising a restraining device anchored to the hub and anchored within the blade, the restraining device configured to restrain a portion of the at least one blade in case of rupture of a proximal portion of the at least one blade;
- detecting a rupture of a ruptured blade from the plurality of blades of the propeller;
- determining a position of the ruptured blade around the rotation axis;
- and,
- activating a release device configured to disable a restraining device of the ruptured blade and release a ruptured portion of the ruptured blade.
