Automatic Railcar Coupling System

A method of automatically aligning a coupler of a railcar mover with a mating coupler of a railcar or other railway vehicle, the method comprising:

• obtaining, by one or more processors of a control unit, at least one of (i) an image of an area surrounding a coupler of a railcar mover captured by one or more image capturing devices and (ii) data from one or more sensors indicating a position and/or orientation of the coupler or a mating coupler of a railcar or other railway vehicle;
• determining, by the one or more processors, a position of the mating coupler relative to the coupler based on the at least one of the image captured by the one or more image capturing devices and the data from the one or more sensors;
• causing, by the one or more processors, a position of the coupler or an orientation of a coupler beam to which the coupler is attached to be adjusted to align the coupler with the mating coupler based on the position of the mating coupler relative to the coupler.
