A hitch-mounted load carrier includes a connecting member and a locking mechanism. The connecting member is configured to be inserted into a hitch receiver. The locking mechanism couples to the connecting member and is configured to secure the connecting member inside the hitch receiver. The locking mechanism includes a first actuator, and second actuator, a shaft, and a clamp assembly. The first actuator is disposed in an interior of the connecting member. The second actuator is opposite the first actuator and disposed in the interior of the connecting member. The shaft is configured to move the first actuator and the second actuator. The clamp assembly includes a first contact member and a second contact member. The first and second contact members are configured to engage an interior surface of the hitch receiver.
