A method for deactivating a high-voltage system of a mobile work machine is disclosed. The high-voltage system includes a voltage source, an intermediate circuit connected to the voltage source and additionally at least two high-voltage components connected to the intermediate circuit, which components are configured to exchange power with the intermediate circuit. The method includes the following, initiated in the order indicated, (a) deactivating the at least two high-voltage components so that power flows between the high-voltage components and the intermediate circuit are minimized, wherein deactivating occurs at least partially sequentially in an order, (b) deactivating the voltage source and/or decoupling the voltage source from the intermediate circuit, and (c) actively discharging the intermediate circuit and associated high-voltage components so that a voltage of the intermediate circuit is set to a value below a voltage limit.
