A printer, comprising:

• a support table to support a medium;
• a transporter to transport the medium supported by the support table in a transportation direction;
• a winder to wind up the medium transported downstream with respect to the support table in the transportation direction;
• and
• a controller;
• wherein
• the winder includes:
• a windup bar to wind the medium around a circumferential surface thereof;
• a windup motor to rotate the windup bar around a central axis of the windup bar;
• and
• an encoder to detect rotation of the windup bar;
• the controller is configured or programmed to include:
• a windup instructor configured or programmed to issue a windup instruction to rotate the windup bar and wind up the medium around the windup bar;
• a rotation detector configured or programmed to detect presence/absence of the rotation of the windup bar by use of the encoder;
• a detector configured or programmed to detect a medium tensile force of the medium between the support table and the winder;
• and
• an abnormality determiner configured or programmed to determine presence/absence of a windup abnormality while the medium is wound up around the windup bar;
• and
• the abnormality determiner is configured or programmed to determine the presence/absence of the windup abnormality based on presence/absence of the windup instruction by the windup instructor, the presence/absence of the rotation, of the windup bar, detected by the rotation detector, and a magnitude of the medium tensile force detected by the detector.
