Devices and methods for smart personal grooming

A smart personal grooming method comprising:

• capturing, by a camera, one or more images depicting a skin area of a user and a hair area of the user, wherein the camera is positioned relative to a body comprising a handle, wherein a head portion is connected to the body and a hair cutting implement, and wherein the camera is oriented toward the hair cutting implement and configured to capture images of the skin area and the hair area of the user when the user uses the hair cutting implement to cut or trim hair,
• separating, with a processor communicatively coupled with the camera, each of the one or more images into one or more patches;
• pixelating, with the processor, hair edges in each of the one or more patches for each of the one or more images;
• counting, with the processor, a value of pixels in each of the one or more patches in each of the one or more images;
• detecting, by the processor, based on the counted value of pixels, each of the skin area and the hair area, wherein a boundary is defined between the skin area and the hair area;
• determining, by the processor, a control state based on the boundary as detected in the one or more images;
• and
• implementing, by the processor based on the control state, at least one of:
• (a) activating the hair cutting implement to cause the hair cutting implement to remove hair in the hair area of the user;
• (b) deactivating the hair cutting implement;
• (c) activating of a haptic vibrator;
• (d) activating an audio device;
• (e) initiating a visual indicator;
• or
• (f) changing a cutting speed of the hair cutting implement.
