Device and method for learning dynamics of a technical system

A controller configured to control a technical system, the controller configured to perform the following steps comprising:

• determining an uncertainty of a mapping between an ambient space, in which states of the technical system are given, and a latent space of encodings of the states of the technical system, wherein contact Hamiltonian dynamics are predetermined for the latent space and wherein the mapping is given by at least one contactomorphism;
• encoding a current state of the technical system, given in the ambient space, to an encoded state of the technical system in the latent space using the mapping;
• adapting the predetermined contact Hamiltonian dynamics to prioritize regions of the latent space where the uncertainty of the mapping is lower over regions of the latent space where the uncertainty of the mapping is higher;
• determining a latent space trajectory for the technical system according to the adapted contact Hamiltonian dynamics in the latent space;
• decoding the determined latent space trajectory to a trajectory for the technical system in the ambient space according to an inverse of the mapping;
• and
• controlling the technical system to at least partially follow the determined trajectory for the technical system in the ambient space.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform a method for controlling a technical system, comprising the following steps:

• determining an uncertainty of a mapping between an ambient space, in which states of the technical system are given, and a latent space of encodings of the states of the technical system, wherein contact Hamiltonian dynamics are predetermined for the latent space and wherein the mapping is given by at least one contactomorphism;
• encoding a current state of the technical system, given in the ambient space, to an encoded state of the technical system in the latent space using the mapping;
• adapting the predetermined contact Hamiltonian dynamics to prioritize regions of the latent space where the uncertainty of the mapping is lower over regions of the latent space where the uncertainty of the mapping is higher;
• determining a latent space trajectory for the technical system according to the adapted contact Hamiltonian dynamics in the latent space;
• decoding the determined latent space trajectory to a trajectory for the technical system in the ambient space according to an inverse of the mapping;
• and
• controlling the technical system to at least partially follow the determined trajectory for the technical system in the ambient space.
