A powered fastener driver includes a housing containing a cylinder with a piston that moves between a top-dead-center (TDC) position and a bottom-dead-center (BDC) position. Attached to the piston, a driver blade travels along a driving axis to drive fasteners, and has lifter teeth on one side and latch teeth on the other. A lifter engages the lifter teeth to raise the piston and blade, powered by a drive unit. The latch shifts between released and latched positions. When released, the latch does not contact the latch teeth; when latched, it engages the latch teeth to block blade movement of the driver blade from the TDC position to the BDC position. The latch transitions between these positions based on direct contact with specific latch teeth during the blade’s movement toward the TDC position or the BDC position.
