A method and system for distilling, comprising a continuous single stage or multi stage process irradiating an evaporator in a presence of liquid comprising a material through a transparent cover under conditions wherein the evaporator converts the solar radiation to heat evaporating the liquid, so as to form vapor and a liquid having a higher concentration of the material; discharging the liquid having the higher concentration under conditions wherein an amount of material in the evaporator reaches equilibrium over time, as opposed to continuously increasing; and condensing the vapor in the condenser to form a condensed liquid. In the multi stage configuration latent heat released from the condensed liquid from the prior stage is reused for additional next stage vaporization of liquid comprising a material.
