A method of adjusting placement of an electrode of a spinal cord stimulation device in a subject is disclosed. The method comprises implanting the electrode proximate to a dorsal root of a spinal cord. A series of electrical stimulation pulses are delivered to the electrode. Evoked compound muscle action potentials (CMAP) may be recorded from a plurality of muscles of the subject. The recorded evoked CMAPs may be processed to generate a muscle map associating the electrode with corresponding muscle activation data. An indication for adjusting the placement of the electrode may be generated based on the muscle map. The placement of the electrode may be adjusted according to the indication.
