Protective and guiding system for hemostasis valve

A protecting and guiding system for a hemostasis valve, the system comprising:

• a hub having a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end, a hollow chamber extending between the distal end and the proximal end;
• a hemostasis valve positioned within the hollow chamber, the hemostasis valve configured to receive a medical device and to prevent fluid from escaping from the hollow chamber;
• a guide plate positioned proximal of the hemostasis valve, the guide plate configured to guide the medical device towards a center of the hemostasis valve to protect the hemostasis valve from damage;
• a spacer configured to space the hemostasis valve from the guide plate within the hollow chamber;
• and
• a cap configured to surround a portion of the hub to secure the hemostasis valve and the guide plate within the hollow chamber.

A sheath for performing a medical procedure, the sheath comprising:

• an elongate body having a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end;
• a hub connected to the proximal end of the elongate body, the hub having a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end, a hollow chamber extending between the distal end and the proximal end;
• a hemostasis valve positioned within the hollow chamber, the hemostasis valve configured to receive a medical device and to prevent fluid from escaping from the hollow chamber;
• a guide plate positioned proximal of the hemostasis valve, the guide plate configured to guide the medical device towards a center of the hemostasis valve to protect the hemostasis valve from damage;
• and
• a cap configured to surround a portion of the hub to secure the hemostasis valve and the guide plate within the hollow chamber.
