Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for delivering a therapeutic agent to a target tissue via a vessel and sensing, in vivo, a characteristic of the therapeutic agent in the vessel. The characteristic indicates a concentration of the therapeutic agent in the vessel. The system preferably includes an occluder. The method preferably includes infusing the therapeutic agent distal of the occluder while the occluder is in an expanded configuration in the vessel.
Claims10
A system for temporarily occluding an anatomical vessel in a patient during infusion of a therapeutic agent to the patient and/or withdrawal of the therapeutic agent from the patient, comprising:
- a) a flexible tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end, an infusion lumen extending between the proximal and distal ends, the infusion lumen having a distal orifice at the distal end;
- b) an expandable occluder at the distal end of the tubular member, the occluder having a collapsed configuration for advancement through the vessel and an expanded configuration for occluding the vessel;
- and
- c) a sensor system adapted to sense, in vivo, a characteristic of the therapeutic agent in the vessel, the characteristic indicating a concentration of the therapeutic agent in the vessel,
- wherein the infusion lumen is positioned to infuse the therapeutic agent distal of the occluder in the expanded configuration.
A system for delivery a therapeutic agent to a patient and removal of the therapeutic agent from the patient, the delivery and removal through at least one catheter having a hub with at least one connector, comprising:
- at least one container including a first volume storing the therapeutic agent, and a second volume fluidly separated from the first volume, the second volume subject to at least partial vacuum and having a seal to hold the vacuum;
- and
- at least one connector for coupling the container to the hub of the at least one catheter, wherein the therapeutic agent is deliverable through the at least one connector to an infusion path of the at least one catheter, and
- wherein once fluid communication is permitted through the seal from the second volume and through the at least one connector, the container is adapted to aspirate the therapeutic agent from the patient, through the at least one connector, and into the second volume.
