Abstract
As a new means for maintaining or improving cognitive function, provided is an agent that is for maintaining or improving cerebral function and that contains an herbal medicine selected from a stem portion of Japanese sweet flag and a jujube seed. Here, said jujube seed is chosen from a crushed material of the same or an extraction residue of the crushed material, and said stem portion of Japanese sweet flag is chosen from a crushed material of the same, an extract of the crushed material, or an extraction residue of the crushed material.

A method for maintaining or improving a cerebral function in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an herbal medicine selected from jujube seed (Ziziphi spinosae Semen) and a stem portion of Japanese sweet flag (Acori graminei/Tatarinowii rhizoma), wherein the jujube seed is in a form selected from a crushed product and an extraction residue of crushed product, and the stem portion of Japanese sweet flag is in a form selected from a crushed product, an extract of crushed product, and an extraction residue of crushed product.
A method for promoting nerve cell repair or inducing neurogenesis in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an herbal medicine selected from jujube seed and a stem portion of Japanese sweet flag, wherein each of the jujube seed and the stem portion of Japanese sweet flag is in a form selected from, independently of each other, a crushed product, an extract of crushed product, and an extraction residue of crushed product.
