A cosmetic agent for oxidatively dyeing keratin fibers, particularly human hair, includes a cosmetic carrier including at least one oxidation dye precursor of the developer type, isatin, and at least one oxidizing agent. The cosmetic agent produces intense, natural-looking hair colorations in shades ranging from light brown to dark brown, medium blond, and copper tones, with excellent fastness properties. Advantageously, the cosmetic agent achieves color results comparable to conventional resorcinol-containing dyes while eliminating or substantially reducing resorcinol-type couplers. A multi-component packaging unit and methods for oxidatively dyeing keratin fibers using the agent are also disclosed.
