Modular bone defect repair system

Abstract

Various implementations include a modular bone defect repair system. The system includes a plurality of scaffold segments and a sleeve having an interior cavity configured to receive the plurality of scaffold segments in an assembled configuration. Each scaffold segment has a porous architecture configured for bone tissue ingrowth. Each scaffold segment includes at least one interlocking feature including a stepped profile configured to mechanically engage with a complementary stepped profile on an adjacent scaffold segment. The sleeve constrains motion of the scaffold segments relative themselves and the host bones. Various other implementations include a scaffold having a porous architecture and a sleeve that attaches to a fixation device and surrounds at least a portion of the scaffold. The sleeve has a wall with an engineered geometry. The engineered geometry is configured to control strain within the scaffold when the device is subjected to loading.
