Abstract
A surgical system includes a drive unit configured to receive and actuate a surgical device. The drive unit includes a plurality of actuators, each of which is operable to linearly translate a corresponding drive members. The surgical device has an elongate shaft with a housing at its proximal end proximal end. Input members are exposed at the housing and are positioned in a drive relationship with corresponding ones of the drive members. Operation of each actuator linearly translates a drive member member, causing linear translation of a corresponding input member and modification of tension of an actuation cable.
Claims22
A surgical system comprising:
- a drive unit comprising a plurality of actuators and a plurality of first members, each actuator operable to linearly translate a corresponding one of the first members;
- a surgical device comprising
- an elongate shaft having a proximal end, and a plurality of actuation elements extending through the shaft,
- a housing carried at the proximal end of the shaft,
- a plurality of second members accessible at an exterior of the housing, each operatively associated with a corresponding one of the actuation elements, each second member linearly translatable relative to the elongate shaft;
- wherein the surgical device is removably mounted relative to the drive unit to position each first member in a drive relationship with a corresponding second member, the drive relationship configured such that linear translation of a first member by a corresponding actuator causes corresponding linear translation of a second member, thereby altering tension of a corresponding actuation element and causing movement of at least a portion of the surgical device.
