An atherectomy system for intravascular occlusion ablation includes a handle and a catheter assembly extending longitudinally from the handle. The catheter assembly comprises a guide catheter defining a lumen, and a drive shaft that extends coaxially with the guide catheter from the handle to a distal tip. The drive shaft is configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis. The system further includes an ablation system featuring a one or more burrs that are releasably coupled to the drive shaft at either the distal tip or a location on the drive shaft proximal to the distal tip. This configuration facilitates the effective ablation of occlusions within blood vessels by allowing precise rotational control and positioning of the burr within the vascular system.
