An example system is described herein for a medical device coupled with functionality to capture digital images and positioning information of the medical device while the device is being used for an examination of an anatomical structure of a patient. The positioning information may be captured using motion or proximity sensors, such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, or inertial measurement units (IMUs). The example system may include associated methods implemented to determine relative positions of the captured images, quality of the captured images, and an extent of coverage of the anatomical structure obtained by the images. The system may provide a visualization of the captured images that maintains the relative positions, and allows an operator to browse, annotate or share the images. The system may further provide the captured images and associated relative positions as input to an automated diagnosis system.
