Abstract
A load carrying and force distributing device to be worn on a user's limb is described. The device has a first support member, a second support member, and a plurality of elongated compression members coupling the first and second support members. The elongated compression members apply compression to the limb to stabilize the bone structure. A control system is configured to sense changes in pressure against the soft tissue and adjust the pressure of the elongated compression members so as to maintain stabilization of the bone structure.
Claims20
A load carrying and force distributing device to be worn on a user's limb having soft tissue and a bone structure, comprising:
- a first support member;
- a second support member;
- a plurality of elongated compression members coupling the first and second support members, wherein the plurality of elongated compression members are configured to apply localized compression to the limb to stabilize the bone structure;
- a control system comprising at least one sensor and at least one actuator operatively coupled to at least one of the elongated compression members;
- and
- wherein the control system is configured to receive data input from the sensor that is indicative of a change in local pressure of one or more elongated compression members, and in response to the data input, automatically or manually adjust a pressure of the one or more elongated compression members to maintain stabilization of the bone structure.
A method of manufacturing a load carrying and force distributing device to be worn on a user's limb having soft tissue and a bone structure, the method comprising:
- measuring or scanning the user's limb;
- and
- manufacturing a first support member, and second support member, and a plurality of elongated compression members based on the measured or scanned limb so as to apply localized compression to the limb to stabilize the bone structure.
An orthopedic or orthotic stabilization device for a limb comprising:
- a first support member sized and dimensioned to fit around the limb;
- a second support member sized and dimensioned to fit around the limb;
- a plurality of elongated compression members coupling the first and second support members, wherein the plurality of elongated compression members are configured to apply localized compression to the limb to stabilize the bone structure;
- a control system comprising at least one sensor and at least one actuator operatively coupled to at least one of the elongated compression members;
- wherein the control system is configured to receive data input from the sensor that is indicative of a change in local pressure of one or more elongated compression members, and in response to the data input, automatically or manually adjust a pressure of the one or more elongated compression members to maintain stabilization of the bone structure.
