Abstract
The invention provides an adaptive padding system for use with aerodynamic performance apparel. The adaptive padding system incorporates a protective pad housed within an elastic compartment. The pad and the elastic compartment are geometrically paired such that the pad is larger than the elastic compartment when the compartment is in its natural state. The geometric pairing of the pad and compartment permit the pad to assume a stable configuration when incorporated in aerodynamic performance apparel worn by a user such that the pad does not migrate within the compartment during use.
Claims18
An article of performance apparel, comprising:
- a) an aerodynamic elastic body engaging portion adapted to be worn directly on a human body across multiple body parts without an intervening garment;
- b) at least one elastic compartment incorporated into the elastic body engaging portion;
- and
- c) at least one lightweight, pliable pad disposed within the compartment and comprising protrusions adapted to absorb and dissipate energy and adapted to protect a user form impact and friction trauma, and depressions decrease the overall weight of the pad;
- wherein the at least one elastic compartment and the at least one pad are geometrically paired such that a dimension of the pad is greater than a dimension of the at least one elastic compartment when the at least one elastic compartment is in its natural state;
- and
- wherein the geometric pairing of the at least one elastic compartment and the at least one pad causes the at least one pad to assume a partially folded state when the at least one pad occupies the at least one elastic compartment.
