An aerosol-generating device and a method of controlling aerosol production thereof

A method of controlling aerosol production in an aerosol-generating system,

• the aerosol-generating system comprising
• an aerosol-generating article comprising an aerosol-forming substrate,
• wherein the aerosol-forming substrate is a cellulose-based substrate that comprises more than 0.1 percent by weight tobacco particles and less than or equal to 10 percent by weight tobacco particles, and
• wherein the aerosol-forming substrate comprises greater than 30 percent aerosol former content by weight,
• a heating chamber configured to at least partially receive the aerosol-generating article,
• a heating system associated with a heating element that is configured to heat the aerosol-forming substrate, and
• a power source providing power to the heating system;
• and
• the method comprising controlling the power during heating of the aerosol-forming substrate to form an aerosol for inhalation by a user to:
• adjust a temperature of the heating element to increase the temperature from an initial temperature to a first temperature, wherein the first temperature is maintained for a first predetermined time period,
• directly after the first predetermined time period, adjust the temperature of the heating element to one or more second temperatures during a second predetermined time period, and
• directly after the second predetermined time period, adjust the temperature of the heating element to be constant and equal to a third temperature in a third predetermined time period, wherein the third temperature approximately corresponds to the first temperature.

An aerosol-generating system, comprising:

• an aerosol-generating article comprising an aerosol-forming substrate, wherein the aerosol-forming substrate is a cellulose-based substrate that comprises more than 0.1 percent by weight tobacco particles and less than or equal to 10 percent by weight tobacco particles, and wherein the aerosol-forming substrate comprises greater than 30 percent aerosol former content by weight;
• a heating chamber configured to at least partially receive the aerosol-generating article;
• a heating system associated with a heating element that is configured to heat the aerosol-forming substrate;
• a power source configured to provide power to the heating system;
• and
• a controller configured to control the power during heating of the aerosol-forming substrate to form an aerosol for inhalation by a user to:
• adjust a temperature of the heating element to increase from an initial temperature to a first temperature, wherein the first temperature is maintained for a first predetermined time period,
• directly after the first predetermined time period, adjust the temperature of the heating element to one or more second temperatures during a second predetermined time period, and
• directly after the second predetermined time period, adjust the temperature of the heating element to be constant and equal to a third temperature in a third predetermined time period, wherein the third temperature approximately corresponds to the first temperature.
