Aerosol provision system

An aerosol provision system for generating an aerosol, wherein the aerosol provision system comprises a substantially cylindrical consumable comprising a susceptor which is configured to be heated for generating the aerosol, and an aerosol provision device which is configured to receive the consumable;

• wherein the aerosol provision device comprises:
• a substantially cylindrical receptacle for receiving the consumable, wherein the receptacle comprises:
• a first end for receiving the consumable into the receptacle;
• a second end opposite the first end;
• and
• a side wall between the first end and the second end;
• a coil which is configured to inductively heat the susceptor located in the consumable;
• an optical sensor for sensing a portion of the consumable when the consumable is received by the aerosol provision device, wherein the portion comprises an external surface of the consumable;
• and
• a light source located at the side wall of the receptacle,
• wherein the sensor is configured to output sensor data, and the aerosol provision device is configured to use the sensor data to determine a predetermined property of the consumable, and to apply a predetermined heating regime based on said predetermined property.
