Abstract
An instrumented hoof tester can include a first arm that instrumented (an instrumented arm) and a second arm that does not include instrumentation (e.g, a manual arm. Each of the two arms can include corresponding jaws and handles, and they are hinged together at a pivot point. The pivoting interconnection of the arms aligns the ends of the jaws and provides for movement of the manual jaw and the instrumented jaw along an engagement path.

An instrumented hoof tester, comprising:
- a first arm having a first jaw and a first handle;
- an second arm having an second jaw and a second handle;
- an interlocking pin which interconnects the first arm and the second arm, wherein when the first arm and the second arm are connected by the interlocking pin the first jaw and second jaw are movable along an engagement path based on application of a user force component to the first handle and to the second handle, and wherein application of the user force component generates a translated force component applied to a test subject held between the first jaw and the second jaw on the engagement path;
- and
- one or more force sensors secured to the first arm to measure the translated force component, wherein the movement of the first arm and the second arm deforms the first arm to bend each of the one or more force sensors by a respective deflection component, wherein the one or more force sensors provide for a measurement of the translated force component generated upon application of the user force component to the first handle and the second handle.
