A lead assembly for a pet comprises a n elongate flexible member having a distal end and a proximal end, a collar attachment member, and a lead attachment member The collar attachment member includes a collar member body connected to the distal end of the elongate flexible member and a hook and jaw assembly supported by the body and configured to releasably attach the lead assembly to a collar. The collar attachment member also includes an attachment point located thereon. The lead attachment member includes a lead member body connected to the proximal end of the elongate flexible member and a lockable connector configured for lockable attachment to the attachment point of the collar attachment member, thereby preventing the collar attachment member from being released from the collar. The attachment point of the collar attachment member is located on a jaw member of the hook and jaw assembly. Attaching the lead attachment member to the attachment point substantially precludes movement of the jaw member relative to the body and locks the jaw member into the closed condition relative to the body.
