Abstract
If there is an interruption of power to an electrical load while the electrical load is operating at low end, the electrical load may not turn back on when power is restored. This undesired operation may be avoided by detecting the application of power to the electrical load, and automatically increasing the magnitude of a control signal being applied to the electrical load by a sufficient amount for a short period of time after power has been applied. This way, the electrical load may be turned back on to low end, instead of erroneously operating in an electronic off condition.
Claims15
A light-emitting diode (LED) lighting controller, comprising:
- LED controller circuitry to, responsive to a restoration of a supply voltage after an interruption in the supply voltage:
- determine whether a pre-interruption control signal parameter value prior to the interruption in the supply voltage is less than a threshold parameter value;
- responsive to the determination that the pre-interruption control signal parameter value was less than threshold parameter value:
- determine a temporary control signal parameter value based on the sum of the threshold parameter value plus a parameter offset value;
- cause a current control signal parameter to increase to the temporary control signal parameter value, wherein the temporary control signal parameter value is sufficient to cause the LED to illuminate;
- and
- decrease the current control signal parameter from the temporary control signal parameter value to the pre-interruption control signal parameter value.
An LED lighting control method comprising:
- detecting by LED controller circuitry a restoration of a supply voltage after an interruption in the supply voltage;
- and
- responsive to the detection of the restoration of the supply voltage after the interruption in the supply voltage:
- determining by the LED controller circuitry, whether a pre-interruption control signal parameter value prior to the interruption in the supply voltage is less than a threshold parameter value;
- and
- responsive to the determination that the pre-interruption control signal parameter value was less than threshold parameter value:
- determining by the LED controller circuitry, a temporary control signal parameter value based on the sum of the threshold parameter value plus a parameter offset value;
- causing by the LED controller circuitry, an increase in a current control signal parameter to the temporary control signal parameter value, wherein the temporary control signal parameter value is sufficient to cause the LED to illuminate;
- and
- causing by the LED controller circuitry, a decrease in the current control signal parameter from the temporary control signal parameter value to the pre-interruption control signal parameter value.
A non-transitory, machine-readable, storage device that includes instructions that, when executed by LED controller circuitry, causes the LED controller circuitry to:
- detect a restoration of a supply voltage after an interruption in the supply voltage;
- and
- responsive to the detection of the restoration of the supply voltage after the interruption in the supply voltage:
- determine whether a pre-interruption control signal parameter value prior to the interruption in the supply voltage is less than a threshold parameter value;
- and
- responsive to the determination that the pre-interruption control signal parameter value was less than threshold parameter value:
- determine a temporary control signal parameter value based on the sum of the threshold parameter value plus a parameter offset value;
- cause an increase in a current control signal parameter to the temporary control signal parameter value, wherein the temporary control signal parameter value is sufficient to cause the LED to illuminate;
- and
- cause a decrease in the current control signal parameter from the temporary control signal parameter value to the pre-interruption control signal parameter value.
The non-transitory, machine-readable, storage device of 13 wherein the instructions, when executed by the LED controller circuitry, further cause the LED controller circuitry to:
- cause a decrease the current control signal parameter from the temporary control signal parameter value to a constant parameter value at or above the threshold parameter value for at least a portion of the first interval;
- and
- cause a further decrease in the current control signal parameter from the constant parameter value to the pre-interruption control signal parameter value.
The non-transitory, machine-readable, storage device of 11 wherein the instructions, when executed by the LED controller circuitry, further cause the LED controller circuitry to:
- receive from operatively coupled voltage sense circuitry, a voltage sense signal to detect the restoration of the supply voltage after the interruption of the supply voltage.
