A method provides techniques for detecting, by at least one processor of an electronic device that includes a memory, a first display, and a first image capturing device (ICD), an activation of a mirror mode of the electronic device. Image data is captured from the first image capturing device. The captured image data is rendered and presented on the first display. A human face is detected in the captured image data. In response to detecting a hand movement proximal to a first region of the detected human face, a grooming mode operation is activated that includes autonomously changing an image capturing characteristic of the first ICD to more clearly present the first region of the face, which is presented on the first display.
