Application-Level Content Control for Direct-to-Cell Satellite Coverage

A method comprising:

• receiving, at a processor, a content delivery request comprising a request to provide content associated with an application to a user device, wherein the application is hosted by an application server;
• obtaining, by the processor, a user profile associated with the user device, wherein the user profile comprises content rules that define how the content associated with the application is delivered to the user device when the user device is connected to a direct-to-cell satellite network connection;
• determining, by the processor and based on the user profile, that the user device is connected to the direct-to-cell satellite network connection;
• determining, by the processor and based on the user profile, if the content associated with the application is high priority content;
• and
• if a determination is made that the content is the high priority content,
• determining, by the processor, content delivery parameters based on the content rules, wherein the content delivery parameters comprise delivering the content associated with the application in an original format or in a modified format, and
• delivering, by the processor, the content associated with the application to the user device while the user device is connected to the direct-to-cell satellite network connection.

A computer storage medium comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory that stores computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
• receiving a content delivery request comprising a request to provide content associated with an application to a user device, wherein the application is hosted by an application server;
• obtaining a user profile associated with the user device, wherein the user profile comprises content rules that define how the content associated with the application is delivered to the user device when the user device is connected to a direct-to-cell satellite network connection;
• determining, based on the user profile, that the user device is connected to the direct-to-cell satellite network connection;
• determining, based on the user profile, if the content associated with the application is high priority content;
• and
• if a determination is made that the content is the high priority content,
• determining content delivery parameters based on the content rules, wherein the content delivery parameters comprise delivering the content associated with the application in an original format or in a modified format, and
• delivering the content associated with the application to the user device while the user device is connected to the direct-to-cell satellite network connection.
