Abstract
Embodiments described herein involve an auxiliary zone contributing audio to a primary zone. In an example implementation, a network media system determines that a first zone in the network media system is playing back a first type of audio content and that a second zone in the network media system is not playing back audio content. While the first zone is playing back the first type of audio content and the second zone is not playing back audio content, the network media system forms a temporarily playback configuration. In the temporary playback configuration, the first zone plays back primary audio content including full frequency range audio content and the second playback device of the second zone plays back auxiliary audio content including low frequency range audio content.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving sensor data representing relative physical positions of playback devices in a media playback system, wherein the playback devices comprise at least one first playback device and at least one second playback device;
- determine physical relationships between rooms in a multi-room structure based on (i) the relative physical positions of playback devices represented in the received sensor data and (ii) playback device-to-room associations that map the playback devices to the rooms, wherein the playback device-to-room associations map the at least one first playback device to a first room and the at least one second playback device to a second room;
- building a room-to-room spatial topography of the multi-room structure based on the determined physical relationships between rooms, the room-to-room spatial topography representing relative physical spatial relationships between the first room and the second room;
- storing, within shared memory of the media playback system, the room-to-room spatial topography;
- and
- calibrating the first room for immersive audio based on the stored room-to-room spatial topography, wherein calibrating the first room for immersive audio comprises determining a mapping of a primary component of the immersive audio to the at least one first playback device and an auxiliary component of the immersive audio to the at least one second playback device.
At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by at least one processor such that a computing device is configured to:
- receive sensor data representing relative physical positions of playback devices in a media playback system, wherein the playback devices comprise at least one first playback device and at least one second playback device;
- determine physical relationships between rooms in a multi-room structure based on (i) the relative physical positions of playback devices represented in the received sensor data and (ii) playback device-to-room associations that map the playback devices to the rooms, wherein the playback device-to-room associations map the at least one first playback device to a first room and the at least one second playback device to a second room;
- build a room-to-room spatial topography of the multi-room structure based on the determined physical relationships between rooms, the room-to-room spatial topography representing relative physical spatial relationships between the first room and the second room;
- store, within shared memory of the media playback system, the room-to-room spatial topography;
- and
- calibrate the first room for immersive audio based on the stored room-to-room spatial topography, wherein the program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing device is configured to calibrate the first room for immersive audio comprise program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing device is configured to determine a mapping of a primary component of the immersive audio to the at least one first playback device and an auxiliary component of the immersive audio to the at least one second playback device.
A computing device comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing device is configured to:
- receive sensor data representing relative physical positions of playback devices in a media playback system, wherein the playback devices comprise at least one first playback device and at least one second playback device;
- determine physical relationships between rooms in a multi-room structure based on (i) the relative physical positions of playback devices represented in the received sensor data and (ii) playback device-to-room associations that map the playback devices to the rooms, wherein the playback device-to-room associations map the at least one first playback device to a first room and the at least one second playback device to a second room, ;
- build a room-to-room spatial topography of the multi-room structure based on the determined physical relationships between rooms, the room-to-room spatial topography representing relative physical spatial relationships between the first room and the second room;
- store, within shared memory of the media playback system, the room-to-room spatial topography;
- and
- calibrate the first room for immersive audio based on the stored room-to-room spatial topography, wherein the program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing device is configured to calibrate the first room for immersive audio comprise program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the computing device is configured to determine a mapping of a primary component of the immersive audio to the at least one first playback device and an auxiliary component of the immersive audio to the at least one second playback device.
