Scalability in multi-tier network fabrics

A computer readable medium storing specific computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause a computer system for:

• for a network of switches included in a multi-tier network fabric, partitioning, for each switch included in a first tier of switches, an uplink port of the switch into a first plurality of sub-ports;
• partitioning, for each switch included in a second tier of switches, a downlink port of the switch into the first plurality of sub-ports;
• generating, for each switch included in the first tier of switches, a plurality of subsets of sub-ports, wherein each subset of sub-ports of the uplink port of the switch included in the first tier of switches is communicatively coupled to a different switch included in the second tier of switches;
• and
• transmitting a packet from a first GPU coupled to a first switch included in the first tier of switches to a second GPU coupled to a second switch included in the first tier of switches via the multi-tier network fabric.

A computing device comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory including instructions that, when executed with the processor, cause the computing device to, at least:
• for a network of switches included in a multi-tier network fabric, partition, for each switch included in a first tier of switches, an uplink port of the switch into a first plurality of sub-ports;
• partition, for each switch included in a second tier of switches, a downlink port of the switch into the first plurality of sub-ports;
• generate, for each switch included in the first tier of switches, a plurality of subsets of sub-ports, wherein each subset of sub-ports of the uplink port of the switch included in the first tier of switches is communicatively coupled to a different switch included in the second tier of switches;
• and
• transmit a packet from a first GPU coupled to a first switch included in the first tier of switches to a second GPU coupled to a second switch included in the first tier of switches via the multi-tier network fabric.
