Measurements for fragmented carrier aggregation (ca)

A method for wireless communications by a base station (BS), comprising:

• receiving one or more measurement quantities associated with one or more measurements performed by a user equipment (UE) within a band for reception on a first component carrier (CC) or a second component carrier (CC), the first CC and the second CC being non-contiguous in frequency;
• and
• determining whether to use a single receive chain or separate receive chains to perform the reception on the first CC and the second CC based on the one or more measurement quantities;
• and
• outputting, to the UE, an indication of whether to use the single receive chain or the separate receive chains to perform the reception on the first CC and the second CC based on the determination.

An apparatus for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• at least one memory for storing computer-executable instructions;
• and
• one or more processors operatively coupled to the at least one memory and configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to cause the apparatus to:
• perform one or more measurements within a band for reception on a first component carrier (CC) or a second component carrier (CC), the first CC and the second CC being non-contiguous in frequency;
• and
• perform reception on at least one of the first CC or the second CC, wherein a determination of whether to use a single receive chain or separate receive chains to perform the reception on the first CC and the second CC is based on the one or more measurements.
