Managing patients of knee surgeries

A computer-implemented method for post-operative patient management, the method comprising:

• receiving, by a processor of a computer system, post-operative patient data from a patient monitoring device, the post-operative patient data comprising a number of steps taken by a patient over a predetermined period of time following a knee operation;
• normalizing, by the processor, the post-operative patient data relative to one or more normalizing factors selected from one or more of demographic data associated with the patient, pre-operative patient reported outcomes measures, pre-operative activity data, type of surgical procedure, or any combination thereof, to generate normalized post-operative patient data;
• retrieving, from a data store, a plurality of normalized expected recovery curves for a population of post-operative patients, each of the normalized expected recovery curves being normalized relative to the one or more normalizing factors applied to the population of post-operative patients, each normalized expected recovery curve corresponding to a distinct recovery performance stratum;
• generating, by the processor, a postoperative monitoring user interface comprising a graphical plot of the normalized post-operative patient data against the plurality of normalized expected recovery curves, thereby providing a comparative visualization of the patient's recovery progress relative to the distinct recovery performance strata;
• and
• displaying the postoperative monitoring user interface on a screen of the computer system.

A computer-implemented method for post-operative patient management, the method comprising:

• receiving, by a processor of a computer system, post-operative patient data from a patient monitoring device associated with a patient who has undergone a knee operation, the post-operative patient data comprising a number of steps taken by the patient over a predetermined period of time;
• normalizing, by the processor, the post-operative patient data relative to one or more normalizing factors selected from one or more of demographic data associated with the patient, pre-operative patient reported outcomes measures, pre-operative activity data, type of surgical procedure, or any combination thereof, to generate normalized post-operative patient data;
• retrieving, from a data store, a plurality of normalized expected recovery curves for a population of post-operative patients, each of the normalized expected recovery curves being normalized relative to the one or more normalizing factors applied to the population of post-operative patients, each normalized expected recovery curve corresponding to a distinct recovery performance stratum;
• generating, by the processor, a postoperative monitoring user interface comprising a graphical plot of the normalized post-operative patient data against the plurality of normalized expected recovery curves;
• comparing, by the processor, the normalized post-operative patient data against the plurality of normalized expected recovery curves to determine a performance classification of the patient;
• automatically selecting, by the processor and based on the performance classification, one of at least two predefined intervention pathways;
• and
• triggering execution of the selected intervention pathway.

A computer system for post-operative patient management, the computer system comprising:

• a screen;
• a patient monitoring device configured to provide post-operative patient data comprising a number of steps taken by a patient over a predetermined period of time following a knee operation;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• receive the post-operative patient data from the patient monitoring device;
• normalize the post-operative patient data relative to one or more normalizing factors selected from one or more of demographic data associated with the patient, pre-operative patient reported outcomes measures, pre-operative activity data, type of surgical procedure, or any combination thereof, to generate normalized post-operative patient data;
• retrieve, from a data store, a plurality of normalized expected recovery curves for a population of post-operative patients, each of the normalized expected recovery curves being normalized relative to the one or more normalizing factors applied to the population of post-operative patients, each normalized expected recovery curve corresponding to a distinct recovery performance stratum;
• generate a postoperative monitoring user interface comprising a graphical plot of the normalized post-operative patient data against the plurality of normalized expected recovery curves;
• display the postoperative monitoring user interface on the screen, thereby providing a comparative visualization of the patient's recovery progress relative to the distinct recovery performance strata;
• compare the normalized post-operative patient data against the plurality of normalized expected recovery curves to determine a performance classification of the patient;
• automatically select one of at least two predefined intervention pathways based on the performance classification;
• and
• trigger an intervention action associated with the selected intervention pathway.
