Abstract
A display device can include a display panel on which a plurality of sub-pixels are disposed to display an image, a backlight unit to supply backlight to the display panel, a data driving circuit to supply a data voltage to the display panel, a backlight control driving circuit to control the backlight unit, and a controller that receives first encoded image data in which dimming data is encoded. The controller further obtains the dimming data and image data based on decoding the first encoded image data, outputs the image data to the data driving circuit, and outputs the dimming data to the backlight control driving circuit.
Claims18
A display device comprising:
- a display panel on which a plurality of sub-pixels are disposed, and configured to display an image;
- a backlight unit configured to supply backlight to the display panel;
- a data driving circuit configured to supply a data voltage to the display panel;
- a backlight control driving circuit configured to control the backlight unit;
- and
- a controller configured to supply image data to the data driving circuit and supply dimming data to the backlight control driving circuit,
- wherein the controller is configured to:
- receive first encoded image data in which the dimming data is encoded,
- obtain the dimming data and the image data based on decoding the first encoded image data,
- output the image data to the data driving circuit, and
- output the dimming data to the backlight control driving circuit.
An image display system comprising:
- a display panel on which a plurality of sub-pixels are disposed, and configured to display an image;
- a backlight unit configured to supply backlight to the display panel;
- a data driving circuit configured to supply a data voltage to the display panel;
- a backlight control driving circuit configured to control the backlight unit;
- a controller configured to supply image data to the data driving circuit and supply dimming data to the backlight control driving circuit;
- and
- a host system configured to supply first encoded image data including the dimming data and the image data to the controller,
- wherein the host system is configured to:
- calculate the dimming data from the image data, and
- obtain the first encoded image data based on encoding the dimming data into the image data.
A display device comprising:
- a display panel on which a plurality of sub-pixels are disposed;
- and
- a controller configured to receive data for displaying an image on the display panel,
- wherein the controller is configured to receive image data corresponding to a frame including a black gradation pattern and a white gradation pattern, and
- wherein, within a timing for displaying the frame, the display panel is configured to display the black gradation pattern, but at least part of the received image data corresponding to the black gradation pattern does not have a value corresponding to the black gradation pattern.
