Abstract
A pedestrian alert signal system may include a pedestrian detector and a blank-out sign communicatively coupled to the pedestrian detector. The blank-out sign may be configured to display a pedestrian symbol and one or more directional crosswalk indicators positioned adjacent to the pedestrian symbol in response to receiving an indication of pedestrian detection from the pedestrian detector. The pedestrian alert signal system may include a communication module, a processor, and a memory. The memory may store instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to send the indication of pedestrian detection from the pedestrian detector to the blank-out sign using the communication module.
Claims20
A pedestrian alert signal system, comprising:
- a pedestrian detector;
- and
- a blank-out sign communicatively coupled to the pedestrian detector, the blank-out sign being configured to display, in response to receiving an indication of pedestrian detection from the pedestrian detector:
- a pedestrian symbol, and
- one or more directional crosswalk indicators positioned adjacent to the pedestrian symbol.
A pedestrian alert apparatus, comprising:
- a housing configured to couple to a traffic signal support structure;
- a display panel disposed within the housing configured to generate, in response to receiving an indication of pedestrian detection:
- a pedestrian symbol, and
- one or more directional crosswalk indicators;
- and
- a control interface configured to control generation of the pedestrian symbol and the one or more directional crosswalk indicators in response to receiving an indication of pedestrian detection.
A method, comprising:
- receiving an indication of pedestrian detection from a pedestrian detector at a pedestrian alert apparatus;
- and
- generating, based on the indication of pedestrian detection, one or more directional crosswalk indicators of the pedestrian alert apparatus,
- the pedestrian alert apparatus being coupled to a traffic signal support structure.
