Systems and methods of performing camera-based detection of non-completed payment at self-checkout are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a POS system can monitor self-checkout activity to detect potential non-payment events. The POS system can receive successive image data of a checkout region from an optical sensor and determine a location track for a customer and movement tracks for one or more target objects. The checkout region can include subregions associated with a terminal, a bagging area, and an exit region. The system can associate at least one target object with a possession region around the customer as the customer location track enters the exit region. The system can correlate the possessed objects with transaction data and payment state information for a checkout transaction and, when an item lacks a corresponding paid entry, generate alert data indicating a potential non-payment event.
