Security document verification apparatus and method for examining a security document

A security document verification apparatus, comprising:

• a document scanning unit configured to:
• scan a security document having one or more machine readable security features to provide at least one image of the scanned security document and to receive electronic data stored within the security document;
• a smart examining unit configured to automatically examine the provided at least one image and the received electronic data using one or more trained learning modules, wherein each of the at least one of the security features is examined by applying a corresponding trained learning module;
• and
• an output unit configured to:
• provide one or more security document feature levels for each machine-readable security feature after applying the corresponding trained learning module, and/or provide a document forgery probability for each machine readable security feature after applying the corresponding trained learning module.
