System and method for using and registering consumer products

Abstract

A system and method to facilitate using and registering consumer products is disclosed. A designer may maintain an online resource that includes a registration page for a consumer product and a video depicting use of the product. The designer may write instructions and data to a chip included within a passive near field communication (NFC) device to request access to the online resource. The NFC device may be passive and may include an adhesive layer, a first and second plastic layer, and a chip with an antenna coiled around the chip sandwiched between and encased by the first and second layer of plastic. The designer may adapt the NFC device to an exterior surface of a consumer product. At some point, a user may use a smartphone having an NFC reader to communicate with the NFC device and to access the online resource that includes the registration page.
