Plagiarism Detection via Revision Analysis

A computing system for determining originality of an individual document, the computing system comprising:

• one or more computing devices, each comprising processing circuitry and memory circuitry, the memory circuitry of each storing instructions executable by the respective processing circuitry whereby the computing system is configured to:
• assign different weights to a plurality of revision events, wherein each revision event describes a time spent performing a modification to the individual document and a modification type, and the weight assigned to each revision event is based on at least the modification type of the revision event;
• use a machine learning model to determine the originality of the individual document based on the plurality of revision events and the different weights assigned to the plurality of revision events;
• and
• train the machine learning model using the plurality of revision events and the determined originality of the individual document.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing software instructions for controlling a computing system to determine an originality of an individual document, wherein running the software instructions on processing circuitry of the computing system, causes the computing system to:

• assign different weights to a plurality of revision events, wherein each revision event describes a time spent performing a modification to the individual document and a modification type, and the weight assigned to each revision event is based on at least the modification type of the revision event;
• use a machine learning model to determine the originality of the individual document based on the plurality of revision events and the different weights assigned to the plurality of revision events;
• and
• train the machine learning model using the plurality of revision events and the determined originality of the individual document.
