An electronic device provides various techniques for intervening during a call communication to prevent access and transfer of sensitive data of a user of the electronic device. A processor is configured to cause the electronic device to connect, via a communications subsystem, a call session with second electronic device(s). The processor monitors for a trigger to access sensitive content from the electronic device during the call session. In response to detecting the trigger to access sensitive content, the processor compares caller identification (ID) information from the at least one second electronic device to trusted caller ID information to determine whether the caller ID information is of a trusted caller. In response to determining that the caller ID information does not indicate a trusted caller, the processor performs a sensitive content intervention that at least temporarily prevents opening of or access to the sensitive content on the electronic device.
