Innovative security is imposed on a database view in a relational database to ensure semantic integrity of database columns, some of which may be restricted columns that can be hidden, read only, referential, or value constrained. A computer hosts a database management system (DBMS) that generates a database view based on a data definition language (DDL) statement that specifies a value expression for a restricted column in the base table. A data manipulation language (DML) statement executes, which entails dynamic and innovative generation of values. Evaluating the value expression generates a new value for the base table. The new value is then stored into the restricted column in the base table. View initialization can be entirely confined to that single DDL statement. This approach does not use a database trigger and supports, but does not require, an ALTER DDL statement or a data control language (DCL) statement.
