Database system with initial storage of a dataset at a first memory location and updates to the dataset stored at other memory locations

A database system comprises:

• pluralities of processing core resources of a plurality of computing device clusters, wherein a computing device cluster of the plurality of computing device clusters includes a plurality of computing devices, and wherein a computing device of the plurality of computing devices includes a plurality of processing core resources of the pluralities of processing core resources, wherein, for storing and updating data of a dataset within the database system at a massive scale, a collection of processing core resources of the pluralities of processing core resources is operable to:
• store a plurality of segments of the dataset at addressable memory locations within collective memory of the collection of processing core resources, wherein the dataset includes a plurality of rows of columnar data, wherein a first segment of the plurality of segments is stored at first addressable memory location within a first memory of the collective memory, wherein the first memory is associated with a first processing core resource of the collection of processing core resources;
• store a plurality of segment metadata regarding the plurality of segments at the addressable memory locations, wherein first segment metadata of the plurality of segment metadata is regarding the first segment;
• store a plurality of segment addendums regarding updates to the dataset at other addressable memory locations within the collective memory, wherein a first segment addendum of the plurality of segment addendums is regarding an update to the first segment;
• store a plurality of addendum metadata regarding the plurality of segment addendums at the other addressable memory locations, wherein first addendum metadata of the plurality of addendum metadata is regarding the change to the first segment;
• and
• update the plurality of segment metadata based on at least one of the plurality of segment addendums and the plurality of addendum metadata.
