Reduced data stored in intent logs of storage systems

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to perform steps comprising:

• receiving, by a storage system, a write request to write a write data, the storage system storing data in a plurality of storage devices comprising a fast storage device and a slow storage device, the fast storage device having faster performance compared to the slow storage device;
• receiving a read request for a read data before the write data is stored on a storage device of the storage system;
• and
• determining whether to store the write data in an intent log on the fast storage device or the slow storage device based on whether the read data overlaps the write data, comprising, responsive to determining that the read data overlaps the write data, storing the write data in an intent log on the fast storage device and, else storing the write data in an intent log on the slow storage device.

A computer system comprising:

• one or more computer processors;
• and
• a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions that when executed by the one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to perform steps comprising:
• receiving, by a storage system, a write request to write a write data, the storage system storing data in a plurality of storage devices comprising a fast storage device and a slow storage device, the fast storage device having faster performance compared to the slow storage device;
• receiving a read request for a read data before the write data is stored on a storage device of the storage system;
• and
• determining whether to store the write data in an intent log on the fast storage device or the slow storage device based on whether the read data overlaps the write data, comprising, responsive to determining that the read data overlaps the write data, storing the write data in an intent log on the fast storage device and, else storing the write data in an intent log on the slow storage device.
